In honor of our Father, Michael M. Wentworth, who succumbed to cancer and passed away in August of 2014, (who also sported such a stellar mustache that would have made even Sam Elliot jealous and who loved to play golf), my younger brother Cameron, my wife Daphne, and I started the Stache Sergeant’s Annual Golf Tournament to raise money for non-profit organizations aimed at fighting the battle against cancer and to promote men’s health awareness.
Since then, my wife Daphne and I have joined the board of directors for an amazing Houston based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization called Friday Harbour and now all proceeds and donations from our events are given in my father’s name to this organization. Friday Harbour is dedicated to “Healing cancer one night at a time,” by raising money to fund housing for out of town cancer patients and their families coming to Houston for treatment at MD Anderson, Texas Childrens, and the Houston Medical Center.
We have grown a little bigger every year since, and we are proud to say that at our 4th annual tournament in 2017 we raised over $30,000 and helped Friday Harbour to provide approximately 300 nights of free housing for cancer patients and their families coming to Houston to receive treatment in the Houston Medical Center. Our goal this year is to raise $60,000 for Friday Harbour, and by adding more events and increasing awareness, we hope to eventually become a leader for charitable fundraising in the Houston community.
